A holiday with tears in the eyes

Dear colleagues, fellow countrymen, veterans, children of war, and all who cherish the memory in their hearts! Happy Victory Day!

We celebrate this day with tears in our eyes and boundless pride in our hearts. 81 years ago, our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, fathers and mothers accomplished the impossible – they persevered, won, and gave us life! They gave us peaceful skies, a free country, the opportunity to raise children, work, love, and simply live!

This holiday is the holy of holies. A day when the pain of loss and the joy of Victory are intertwined in our hearts. When we say thank you to those no longer with us and embrace those who are still with us. This is a day of our shared memory, gratitude, and our collective strength.

And may peace reign in every home on this great holiday. May parade marches sound, may children laugh, and St. George ribbons flutter in the wind. May war never knock on your door. May every day begin with clear skies and end with a quiet evening with your family.
